Conflict Resolution Skills for Primary Schools Facilitation Training Course

This course is part of our Conflict Resolution Skills for Primary Schools project.

 The course consists of a one day Theory & Skills Workshop and a Practical Learning placement in schools over a four week period.

Theory workshop:  Covers essential components for working in Conflict Management specifically adapted for work with children in Primary School.

  • Understanding me and others: How to encourage ourselves and others to understand our own needs and the needs of others.
  • Managing my anger: Skills for recognizing our emotions and managing them when facing conflict.
  • Improving my communication:  Communication skills and active listening including varieties of communication styles.
  • Understanding my skills to manage conflict: We will practice our learnt skills,facing conflicts in a safe atmosphere.

We will take a practical approach through team building activities, cooperative games, group dynamics and informed practice.

Practical learning: The Peace and Justice Centre will aim to provide those who complete the workshop with the opportunity to participate in delivery of the Conflict Resolution Skills for Primary Schools Project when they will accompany a professional in Conflict Management, on up to 8 sessions in Primary Schools. This will provide the opportunity to practice the skills acquired in the theoretical workshop and lead some activities in 2 groups of children during 4 sessions with each group. Participants who complete the training will be awarded a Conflict  Management for Primary Schools Facilitator Certificate and will have the opportunity to work and take part in the Conflict Resolution Skills for Primary Schools Project in future years. Practical learning times will be agreed with participants.

The course fee includes 7.5  hour training workshop plus tea, coffee, snacks and lunch.

Course Leaders: Cristina Asenjo & Elena Ramos

Cristina Asenjo  is an experienced trainer who has worked for fifteen years in the field of conflict resolution and community education. She has delivered peace education programmes in a wide variety of settings including women´s organisations, community projects and schools of Madrid, Ireland and Scotland where she currently works as a Conflict Resolution Project Worker at Cyrenians. She worked as an intercultural mediation counsellor at the Asian University for Women (Bangladesh) with women from countries that experience conflict such as Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Palestine. Cristina holds a BA in Social Education, a Postgraduate Diploma in Conflict and Dispute Resolution Studies and is currently studying for an MSc in Community Education at the University of Edinburgh.

elena with kids resizedElena Ramos has a Degree in Psychology and Teaching Diploma from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.  She has worked in social and community projects for more than 15 years, with children, teenagers and adults, and on women and parental counselling.  She was trained in nonviolence at the University developing some projects with teenagers. She is a founding member of several social and women’s associations like Matriuskas                (women’s issues), Maelma (parental counselling, therapies and nonviolence) and Educar en la Noviolencia (nonviolence projects in Spain and Colombia). Elena is still involved with the last one where she trained local educators who are still carrying out the project.
