The Centre is working in a variety of ways to address issues relating to refugees, especially in relation to Unaccompanied Refugee Children.
Advocacy for Unaccompanied Refugee Children
In October we organised a public meeting on Welcoming Refugees with a focus on Unaccompanied Child Refugees at University of Edinburgh that attracted an audience of two hundred. The talk, which was part of the Edinburgh World Justice Festival, gathered voices from different civil society organisations, refugees and campaigners, who spoke about the needs and experiences of Syrian and other refugees in Scotland, Calais and Thesalonikka in Greece. Following the meeting we held a Save the Calais Children Candlelit Vigil on Princes St at which we collected around a hundred signatures on letters to the Home Secretary Amber Rudd and to French Interior Minister demanding both governments protect these vulnerable children. We delivered the letters to the office of the Secretary of State for Scotland and to the French Consulate.
Our Save ALL Calais Children banner is hanging on the railings of St Johns Church very prominently on Princes St.
