Rights of Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Fully updated for the Immigration Act 2016

This half-day training looks at the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. The Immigration Act 2016 will withdraw asylum support from refused asylum seekers with children and make significant changes to the support regime for all asylum seekers. Service providers and the Third sector will be at the front line, supporting people made destitute or threatened with destitution by the provisions of the Act and this half day course will help them get the right information to their service users as early as possible.

Now that almost all Scottish Local Authorities are hosting refugees, service providers throughout Scotland should have an awareness of issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers. The course will explore how the asylum system works from the perspective of a claimant and the process involved in making a claim for asylum. The course will also explore the barriers faced by both refugees and asylum seekers building a new life in Scotland and their respective entitlement to services.
