Work That Reconnects Day

Event Details

“The eyes of the future are looking back at us, and they are praying that we might see beyond our own time” Terry Tempest Williams

Are you concerned about what’s happening in our world? Would you like to explore how we can support ourselves and others to show up with hope?

We’d like to invite you for a day workshop in The Work That Reconnects, a form of transformative group work developed in Joanna Macy, to give us energy and focus to repond to the current challenges faced by our planet. The workshop is a powerful way to connect more deeply with others in shared love and concern, under the supporttive guidance of Kristine Mackenzie-Janson and Olga Bloemen.

Over the course of the day we’ll do practical exercises designed to grow feelings of gratitude and connection, look at how we can overcome feelings of despair and helplessness about the collective mess we’re in, practice changing our perspective on what’s unfolding, and explore how we can take steps towards greater resilience and justice.

You can find our more about the Work that Reconnects Here: https://workthatreconnects.org/

For Whom:

This workshop is open to anyone, whether you’re new to The Work That Reconnects or not. We hope to bring together a diverse and intergenerational group, and deepen our collective learning.

Exchange:

This is a Salisbury Centre event and is offered on a donation basis to be as inclusive as possible. We don’t want costs to be a barrier to anyone participating. Suggested donation is £30 for the day and you’re invited to pay what you can afford. Any donation about this amount is very welcome as it allows us to run more events like this for folks on lower incomes. 60% of the fee will go to the two facilitators, 40% will go to the Salisbury Centre to fund its community offerings. Please bring your donation in cash on the day.

Accessibility:

The workshop will take place in the beautiful Library space of the Salisbury Centre and outside in the garden, weather allowing. The Library is on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible. The Salisbury Centre however doesn’t have disabled toilets (that’s in the pipeline for this Autumn!)

Logistics:

Please arrive from 9:30am to settle and make yourself a cuppa of something. We’ll start at 10am promptly. We’ll provide hot frinks and snacks and would like to invite all participants for a potluck lunch. Please bring some vegetarian food to share if you’d like to take part in that. Also don’t forget to bring warm layers and waterproofs for being outside in the garden.

About the Facilitators:

Kristine Mackenzie Janson – Kristine is a mindfulness teacher and trained facilitator in The Work That Reconnects. She runs Earthy Mindfulness and offers workshops and mindfulness sessions about reconnecting with both our inner world and the world around us: the awareness of being an inextricable part of this one wild and precious earth. She’s also a trustee of the Salisbury Centre

Olga Bloemen – Olga is currently resident at the Salisbury Centre and helps to organise different community events at the Centre, such as the weekly soup suppers and the seasonal festicals. As a facilitators with Tripod: Training for Social Action, she supports groups and organisations working for social and ecological justice in Scotland and beyond. She’s interested in how we can tackle the root causes of the climate emergency and build collective forms of resistance. She’s been exploring the Work That Reconnects as a way of taking care of the inner dimensions of activism. She tends to agree with Mary Oliver: “There is only one question: How to love this world”
