Palestinian Archbishop Atalla Hanna Edinburgh Talk

Event Details

Augustine United Church

Sunday 20 July, 5:00pm

His Eminence Archbishop Theodosios of Sebastia from the Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, also known by his own name, Atallah Hanna, will speak on the current situation facing Palestinians in Israel, the acceleration of Israel’s forced population transfers and the Israeli Government’s latest efforts to divide Christian and Muslim citizens of Israel.

Atallah Hanna is one of the authors of the Kairos Palestine Declaration, which articulates the Palestinian Christians’ call for justice for all Palestinians and for international solidarity ‘in order to accelerate the achievement of justice, peace and reconciliation’.

Atallah Hanna criticised “Israeli attempts to present this conflict as a Jewish-Moslem religious conflict… [Israel] is irritated by the growing Christian voices raised on the Palestinian issue… the Church in Palestine is… deeply rooted in this land and the Arab Palestinian Christians and Moslems who live in it.”

This Easter, Israel again prevented most Palestinian Christians from attending religious ceremonies in Jerusalem, further diminishing the Palestinian presence.

“The Palestinian Right of Return is Non-negotiable”
