Northern Greece – Love Without Borders: Refugee Art Exhibition

International grass roots organisation, Love Without Borders – For Refugees In Need, will host this Refugee Art Show.

The charity will exhibit pieces of artwork created by children and adult refugees who are currently living in refugee camps and housing communities in northern and central Greece. The art exhibit will display the refugees’ artwork which highlights their hopes, dreams and individual experiences.

The refugees are primarily from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. They have been displaced by war and have fled their home countries in search of a peaceful place to live and raise their families. Many in Greece are awaiting reunification with family members in other European countries, who made the journey before them.

The organisation focuses on providing art classes for the refugees. “The children have had a lot of trauma in their lives,” Kayra Martinez the founder of the charity said. “It’s a great way for them to express their emotions…..it gives the children and adults something fun and different to do.”

All works of art onsite at the Refugee Art Show will be available for purchase, with money from each sale going directly to the artist, so that they can buy basic necessities while living in the camps (food, clothing, medicine, etc).

Art materials; canvases, sketch books, paints and pencils are purchased with donations received by the charity. 20% of each canvas sale will be paid to the The City of Edinburgh Methodist Church in commission and all other monies go directly to the artist.
