Dances of Universal Peace 50th Anniversary: Honouring Our Roots

Event Details

Events are taking place around the world to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dances of Universal Peace (DUP). For the first time, five local mentored and trained DUP teachers (and two extra musicians) are offering an event together. They will lead Dances and spiritual Walks, share some wonderful stories about Murshid SAM – and perhaps share something about their own personal, often life-changing, Dance journeys.

There will be time for talking and eating as well as Dancing – all who come are invited to bring a small offering of ready-prepared vegetarian food to share. A selection of teas/coffee will be provided. Plus Murshid SAM’s favourite treat!

No previous experience is necessary, all are welcome. Wear comfortable loose clothing and soft shoes – or bare feet. Please arrive from 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start.

Entry is free, donations are welcome, The event is supported bu the Edinburgh International Centre for Spirituality and Peace.

A wee bit of history:

Samuel Lewis (Mushid SAM) – pictured dancing in Central Park, New York in the 1960’s (which explains the clothing!) – created the Dances in the 1960’s as a form of ‘Peace Through the Arts’ in which moving and singing sacred phrases together create a sense of peace and unity – a joyful oneness.
